April After Hours at Robie House: Wright’s architectural masterpiece is the venue and you are on the guest list. Gather with friends as the Robie House comes to life after hours. Wander the celebrated spaces of this icon of modernism while enjoying live music, drinks, light hors d’oeuvres and a festive, casual atmosphere. Every Friday in April from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
NEW – Inside Wright’s Studio Tour: Frank Lloyd Wright’s first home was his laboratory where he experimented with concepts that led to the development of the Prairie style of architecture. His adjacent studio was the creative center for architectural and design ideas. A special feature of this tour is a visit to the Studio Balcony, now open to the public for the first time. Here artisans collaborated with architects to create some of Wright’s masterpieces. Learn about life in the Studio, an environment that was transformative for the talented men and women who worked there. Display panels showcase the careers of Wright’s notable colleagues. Daily 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., tours begin April 4.
Other tours of note and special events:
- Guided Tours at Unity Temple in Oak Park: Tour Wright’s only surviving public building from his Prairie period and one of his most significant accomplishments. Wright described Unity Temple as “my contribution to modern architecture.”
- Guided Tours at the Emil Bach House: Explore Wright’s jewel-like Bach House, newly-restored to its original 1915 design, on a seasonal guided interior tour.
- Legacy Year Ragtime Concert: In the inspiring space of Wright’s Unity Temple, pianist and MacArthur “Genius” Award recipient Reginald Robinson performs the music of Scott Joplin as well as his own ragtime compositions. The evening celebrates two extraordinary art forms that changed the face of American culture at the turn of the century—ragtime and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie style architecture.
- All Wright Architectural Housewalk: Featuring rare interior tours of private homes and public buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Experience Wright’s timeless designs in an area that has the largest number of Wright-designed homes anywhere.
